Welcome to another episode of backyard beekeeping questions and answers.
This is the audio track from today's YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/PiIaIi1qrdc
Questions and time stamps are below, generously provided by Adam Holmes:
1) If my package of bees arrives during bad weather, should I go ahead and install them? 1:23
2) I want to make a new colony from 3 that are doing well. Should I allow them to make a new queen, or should I buy one? 4:01
3) How do you feed syrup to a new package of bees when installing them into the Layens Hive? 10:31
4) Please explain your opinion regarding rotating boxes coming into spring. 13:10
5) I have a nuc colony coming. It will come with deep frames and all of my boxes are medium. what configuration should I add those frames? 20:55
6) Can I just open part of a Flow-Frame and only draw off part of it? You've said that you can't stop the flow once it begins. 25:01
7) How cold is "cold" when feeding syrup in spring? 29:16
8) What are your plans for the Layens Hive this year? 31:20
9) When people combine colonies, they use news print etc, but when they are making packages they just dump them all together. Don't the bees still need to get to know one another? 34:54
10) At what point is it ok to add liquid feed again? How do I know when I can do a walk away split? 40:21
11) My hives are on my property that is 4 acres, we are right next to a 30 acre field of alfalfa. Would I be better off moving my hives away to avoid the spraying? 45:16
